Chapter Summaries; Part 1
1) I'm Manny and this is my life. :
Manny is talking about his family. Especially about his brothers Ranjit,who is married,Harry,who is engaged to a girl,who he doesn't know. And abput his two sisters,which are about 20 years old. And about his father,who is drinking much alcohol and who is beating up Manny often. In his opinion,he doesn't know his mum,because they do not talking often.And he is talking about his best friend Adrian,his best friend and that his family doesn't like him,because he is a Black-Jamaican.
Also he is telling about,that he and Ady,are shoplifters and that they're smoking.
2) Getting married with 17.
Manny is in class 8 at the Moment.He is often thinking about his cousin Ekbal,who is allowed to do what he wants.
Also he is on trouble with his brother Harry,because Manny called Harry a rassist. Manny doesn't want to go to Harry's wedding.
At the morning of the Wedding,Manny's father told him about his plans for Manny to get married in the age of 17.
3) Falling in love with Ringlets.
The summer break between year 8 and year 9 had started. Manny is very angry about his Marriage at the age of 17 and Manny meets Ady every afternoon.They often visit Leicester,where many Asians live. Manny likes this city very much,because there living many different people together,for example Blacks & Asians.Manny gets to know Lisa.Lisa is the cousin of Sarah,the girl who Ady wants to date.Manny is fascinated of Lisa and falls in love with her.But he doesn't know her name,so they're calling her „Ringlets“.
4) Searching for Lisa
Manny is thinking about Lisa all the time,but he doesn't know the name of her yet. He wants to go there with Ady,where they met the two girls the last time. So they drive to Leicester and they going through the streets,until they met Sarah and Lisa. They talking to each other and Manny is very nervous.
5) Start of Year 9
Manny is thinking about asking Lisa for a date,but he is scared about that,what his parents would say. Then,Ady and Manny are visiting Sarah and after coming home,Manny is dreaming about,what would be,if he was only adopted.A few Minutes later Manny is fighting with his Brother Harry and Harry destroys Ady's cassette .
6) Eky's visit
Manny and Lisa have a relationship now and they are meeting in an Italian coffee shop. It is their tenth date & Manny is telling her about his parents and their ideas,to search a wife for Manny.She is listenig to him and is holding his hand.She tells him about her family. After coming home,Ekbal and his family are visiting Manny and his family.Eky is coming up in Mannys room and ask him about the plans for Manny to get married with seventeen.
Manny is thinking about what he is able to do,for not getting married with an India girl.

Explain why there is such a huge difference between the family members regarding identity
In my opionion,there is such a huge difference between the family members regarding identity,because Manny was born in England. On page 22 in line 20-26,Manny said that he feels home in England,because he was born there and that England is his homecountry. Also he says,that he wouldn't habe a clue what to do or where to go,if he were in Punjabi.
So I think he doesn't feel belonging to Punjabi. In contrast to Manny,his parents were born in Punjabi and they lived there for many years. They were educated in a more traditional way. Manny's identity is influenced by the British way of life. He never lerarned to live a life like a Punjabi teenager.

Manny :"Perhaps not happier,but when i get married then because i love the girl. ( What did I
say , man?! My father will kill me !)
Father : "What did you say ?! Do you want to hurt your Mothers feelings ?! It will be your fault
when she kills herself !!!"
Manny : (I him for doing so,Why can't he be a bit like Ekbal's father? Why he can't tries to
understand me ?! ) "No Daddy-ji.I love my mother."

In my opinion,Manny's parents can be described as typical 1st generation immigrants.because they were born in Punjabi and they're only living in Britain to earn money.
